LWW2.3 Kurinuki Carved Tea Bowl Workshop with Liz Walker
Kurinuki Carved Tea Bowl ceramic hand building class, suitable for all abilities. A mesmerising, organic process which yields a fantastic end-result.
Description
In this workshop you will explore Kurinuki carving. Kurinuki translates in Japanese 'to hollow' and is a traditional technique to make pottery by carving away from a single block of clay. Hollowing out clay in this way is a slow and meditative process that produces truly unique one-of-a-kind ceramics pieces.
Liz will demonstrate the technique of Kurinuki and the tools that can be used and then you will have the opportunity to carve 2 tea bowls yourself. At the end of the workshop your bowls will be
left to dry, after which they will be bisque fired, glazed and fired again. Your bowls will be ready to pick up after 2-3 weeks. The choice of glaze will be at the discretion of the tutor.
These are optional and are not required to be able to participate. This hand making workshop is suitable for all levels of ability.
