This class is designed to be an introduction to ceramic mould making. Moulds are useful if you want to recreate an item, bowl etc and have consistency in reproduction. It also saves time if you can use a mould. Press moulds are great if you want to decorate items with sprig (relief clay decorations) A plaster bat is useful when your clay is too wet and you need to dry it out or if you are recycling your clay.

 

This workshop is suitable for ceramic / pottery students with some clay knowledge.

You will learn the following:

  1. How to prepare the item to mould – ingredients to buy, equipment required.
  2. How to weigh and mix plaster of Paris
  3. Make a simple concave or convex small round bowl mould
  4. Make a mould of a small, sculptured item so that you can produce multiple sprigs (press moulds) for decoration or single items
  5. Pour a simple square plaster bat that you can use to recycle or dry out you clay.

Prerequisites

Beginners welcome

Supplies

Some materials will be provided for use on the day.

Plaster will be provided.

What you  will need to bring with you:

A small decorative item to mould (something flat and simple, not too detailed, it could be something that you have made out of clay or a found object).

Apron

Wear closed shoes

Mask because we ae working with plaster powder

Large plastic container to use for making the plaster bat

Jar of vaseline

1 x 10l bucket

Water bottle

Lunch or you can purchase at the cafe onsite.
