SHPO.T.01 - Introduction to Photography
Teens explore Cyanotype, creating unique blue and white images using sunlight and objects, plus an introduction to Photography History and techniques.
Description
Tutor: Jonathan Bourla (fine art photographer)
In this class participants will be shown an early form of photography called Cyanotype and then have a go themselves. By laying objects such as a fern frond, some lace, or other items on special cloth and exposing to sunlight for a period, and after washing a blue and white image is formed.
The class will be introduced to the work of some notable Master photographers from history and will have a go at recreating their own version of the famous photograph “Pepper No. 30” by Edward Weston, made in 1930.
The tutor Jonathan will discuss elements of landscape photography with the class, including composition and lighting, with mention of settings to adjust not only for cameras but also with the cameras on mobile phones. Jonathan will also introduce the class members to taking their photograph into Photoshop (or the free browser-based Photopea, which is similar) and changing how their photos look.
Jonathan hopes the workshop participants will feel inspired and to develop the love for photography that Jonathan himself has.
