CLW: Make a Lampshade with Claire Linthwaite

In this interactive workshop, we will be making a simple straight sided drum lampshade. It is easy and great for total beginners.

A casual, fun, friendly and creative workshops, led by Claire from Oscuro NZ, a business that has been passionately creating lampshades for over 2 decades.  

We will be making a simple (approximately30cm diameter) straight sided drum lampshade. It is easy and great for total beginners. Students will just need to bring 0.5m of a cotton or linen weight fabric required (no silks, sheers or upholstery weights) Everything else is supplied and no sewing skills needed. 

You will come away with a professional lampshade of our own creation.

Prerequisites

Beginners welcome.

Supplies

Please bring along 0.5m of a standard width 1.2m+ minimum, everything else is provided.

Do NOT bring heavy velvets/upholstery/woollen or silky/sheers, as these are tricky! 

The best fabrics to use are light to mid-weight linens. It is also best to stay away from horizontal stripes for beginners. 

You may wish to bring along an apron to protect clothing from glue but it is not essential. 

We will not be remaking existing shades.

 All precut linings will be 30cm tall (height of shade). You will have the option of cutting down on the day if required.  

Everything else is supplied.

No sewing skills needed.
