KJA2.3 Beginners Acrylic Painting Short Course with Kate Jones

A fun four week interactive class for any novice / beginner who would like to try out acrylic painting without the long-term commitment.

Description

In this shorter, dynamic class Kate will teach you the following: 

Week #1 Warm-up drawing with pure contours; using brushes and making marks; tinting pure colours; secondary colours; canvas priming with a colour wash; basic composition; paint a boat/beach scene

Week #2 Warm-up drawing with negative space; a little bit of colour theory; how to mix earthy colours; composition #2; paint a still life scene

Week #3 Warm-up drawing with shading; learning about tonal values; realistic skin tones; proportions of the head/face; paint a portrait

Week #4 Warm-up drawing - learn to simplify scenes; using a painting knife to create 3-D effects; paint a mountain scene

Supplies

What to Bring:

1. Acrylic Paint: (Student grade okay). 1 tube each of the following colours: 

     - titanium white (large tube)

      - burnt umber

      - burnt sienna

     - French ultramarine blue

     - alizarin crimson (red)

     - cadmium yellow OR medium yellow

 

2.   4 x brushes:

    - 1 x large brush e.g. 3.5 cm wide

     - 1 x medium size brush e.g. 2.0 cm wide

     - 1 x  long handle brush e.g. a flat synthetic with a very long handle and a          1 cm  wide head

     - 1 x angle brush e.g. 1 cm wide

 

3.    A small pack of painting knives - any size; plastic okay

 

4.   1 x palette to hold your paints; bigger size better; plastic okay

 5.    4 x canvas; assorted sizes

        3 x 30 cm wide x 40 cm long (about 12 inches x 16 inches, a reasonably          standard size).

       1 x 45 cm x 45 cm square (about 20 inches square, a standard canvas               size).
